Mounting
- Use a mount designed for motorcycles, fixed firmly to the handlebar or a mirror stem.
- Check that it holds the phone in rough roads and does not block the controls or the dashboard.
- Consider a vibration dampener, because strong engine vibration can damage the phone's camera stabiliser on some models.
Weather and power
- A waterproof case or pouch keeps rain and spray out, but check for glare and heat in the sun.
- Navigation drains the battery. Use a power bank or a bike USB socket fitted to the correct standard.
- Carry a short cable that cannot snag on the controls.
Set it up before you ride
- Enter the destination and download offline maps while you still have signal.
- Use voice guidance through an intercom or earphones that still let you hear traffic.
- Switch off notifications and set the screen to stay on and be readable in sunlight.
While riding
Glance, do not stare. Stop in a safe place to change the route or answer a call. See offline maps, GPX files and intercoms and audio.
The law on using a phone while riding differs between countries. Follow the local rules, and keep your attention on the road.
