What to pack

  • Sterile dressings and a few adhesive bandages in different sizes.
  • A roll of gauze and a conforming bandage.
  • Medical tape and a pair of disposable gloves.
  • Antiseptic wipes and a small saline or clean-water wash.
  • A foil emergency blanket, which is light and keeps an injured person warm.
  • Small scissors and a whistle.
  • Any personal medication you need, such as an allergy pen, with a note of the dose.

Where to carry it

Keep the kit somewhere you can reach quickly, such as under the seat or in a tank bag. Pack it in a waterproof pouch and mark it clearly, so that a bystander can find it.

Check it twice a year

  • Replace anything used, damaged or past its expiry date.
  • Make sure the contents are dry.
  • Check that everything is still easy to open with gloves on.

Using it

A kit is for minor injuries and for keeping someone safe while professionals come. After a serious crash, call the emergency services first. See what to do after a crash.

A first aid course teaches you far more than any kit. Consider taking a short course for riders. Do not remove the helmet of an injured rider unless it is necessary to keep them breathing.
